The goal is to collect the most books. A book is four cards of the same rank. Suits do not matter.
With 2 or 3 players, each player receives 7 cards. With 4 players, each receives 5 cards.
On your turn, ask one opponent for a rank already in your hand. That player gives you every card of that rank.
If you receive one or more requested cards, your turn continues.
If the opponent has none, you go fish and draw the top stock card. Drawing the rank you requested lets you continue; otherwise play passes to the left.
Four cards of one rank form a book and are placed aside. After making a book, play continues.
If your hand is empty when your turn begins, draw from the stock. If the stock is empty, you are out.
The game ends when all 13 books have been collected. The player with the most books wins.
